When I was a Protestant minister, I thought that it was a matter of time that I would be a mega-church pastor.
But now I realize that would not be possible. Mega-church preachers give the people what they want, not what they need. They do this in two areas:

1. They preach that you can know for absolute certainty that you are saved and can never lose their salvation.

2. They preach that God will make you successful in this life - that may mean successful in your occupation, having a lot of money, have a successful marriage or being healthy (God healing you from a disease).

These two go hand-in-hand. If you are absolutely certain you are saved and you can never lose it, then why bother even going that mega-church? You might as well as stay home and watch football on Sundays. Well, that will not do, of course. So that motivation to still live for God and continue to go to church is that if you do not, God will punish you. He will not punish you for eternity, but He will punish in the here and now. So if you want to live the good life now, then you need to live for God. It does not mean you will never face any trial, but that is only for a season. Eventually, God will make your life happy now.
